Being Perfect

Jazmine Williams 9/20/2016 6:33:56 PM

I remember a time where I believed that what someone thought of me dictated my value...

Think about that...

Me...a person living my own life...thought that another person...living their own life...had say over my SELF WORTH.

Looking at it in print makes me feel so silly for ever being that misguided.

We live in a society where "perfect" imitations of who and how we should be are constantly forced down our throats.

We're expected to keep up with the Kardashians and fit whatever mold is popular for that week.

Hair has to be right, makeup has to be tutorial worthy, clothes have to be out of the latest magazine or video...

It's exhausting!

Who has time to be concerned with fitting someone else's idea of "perfection"?

I know I don't.

I'm a Christian. Wife. Mother. Sister. Daughter. Business partner. And the list goes on...

I have zero time to be "perfect" because being perfect is an impossible goal. We're human... we make mistakes... our skin breaks out... we gain and lose weight... we lose our patience... we get angry... we hurt...

Trying to please everyone is a mindset that will leave you defeated. You have to realize that you were created on purpose for a purpose and NO ONE walking this earth can make you feel any type of way without YOUR permission. Being happy with yourself and your situation is a conscious choice that you make everyday. Giving another person that power is the ultimate betrayal to yourself.

My teen years were rough...I had zero self worth but I wore a pretty convincing mask of confidence and happiness. Unfortunately when I was alone...I couldn't lie to myself and I made some bad decisions and treated myself very poorly.

As I'm writing this I'm thinking about all of the time I wasted letting others tell me who I was and how I should feel about myself.

I am exactly who God created me to be and I am perfectly happy with who I am. When I'm alone, I am no longer consumed with the pressure of trying to fit the media induced mold of today's society.

I love my self...

flaws and all...

and I encourage you to do the same. Dwell on your strengths; not your weaknesses and put them to good use. Don't spend your life trying to be someone that you're not.

Trends change everyday.

It's an unreal expectation to "fit in" with everything that's "current".

Why would God make us all so different...if he expected us to be the same?

Love and embrace all the things that make you the unique person that you are and don't let ANYONE change your mind.
